KOSPI Starts Flat... Semiconductor Stocks Rise in Early Trading Session

On the 19th, the domestic stock market started off flat.

As of 9:11 a.m. that day, the KOSPI index was trading at 2,576.77, up 2.05 points (0.08%) from the previous trading day. Individual investors were net buyers with 88.7 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions were net sellers with 29.9 billion KRW and 61.6 billion KRW respectively.

Among the top market capitalization groups on KOSDAQ, semiconductor representative stocks such as SK Hynix (1.60%) and Samsung Electronics (0.43%) started higher. On the other hand, LG Chem (-2.09%) and POSCO Holdings (-0.33%) were declining.

Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, "Supported by U.S.-related factors such as the rebound of the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (+0.5%), the easing of the dollar's strength, and the sharp rise in market interest rates, semiconductor stocks that had a large drop the previous day are expected to rebound during the session. However, due to concerns such as caution ahead of the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and energy-driven inflation worries caused by rising international oil prices, the overall index rebound momentum will be limited, and a sector-differentiated market is expected." She added, "From a sector perspective, considering that Apple (+1.7%), which had consecutive price adjustments due to recent negative news from China, showed strength on news of strong pre-orders, it is judged that Apple-related value chain stocks will show relatively strong rebound momentum in the domestic stock market today."

On the same day, the KOSDAQ index was at 892.70, up 1.41 points (0.16%) from the previous trading day. Individual investors were net buyers with 33.9 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions were net sellers with 23.5 billion KRW and 6.2 billion KRW respectively.

Among the top market capitalization groups on KOSDAQ, EcoPro BM (1.43%), L&F (1.60%), JYP Ent. (1.47%), and SM (1.05%) were rising in early trading. Conversely, POSCO DX (-1.80%) and Rainbow Robotics (-0.39%) started lower.
