Kim Eui-gyeom: "Choi Kang-wook found the National Assembly 'badge' bothersome"

"Choi Kang-wook Will Soar High"

Regarding the Supreme Court's confirmation on the 18th of a suspended prison sentence resulting in the loss of parliamentary membership for Choi Kang-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was indicted for issuing a false internship certificate to the son of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Eui-gyeom suggested that "Choi Kang-wook will rather soar high," implying that he will continue to be more active in the future.

On the 18th, Kim said on his social media service (SNS), "He found the parliamentary badge cumbersome. Even when he had something to say, he held back a lot. Now, he will be unrestrained. He will soar high."

On the same day, the Supreme Court's full bench upheld the original ruling sentencing Choi to eight months in prison with a two-year suspension for obstruction of business. According to the Public Official Election Act and the National Assembly Act, which stipulate that if a sentence of imprisonment or higher is confirmed, the right to be elected is revoked until the sentence is extinguished, Choi loses his parliamentary seat.

Kim said, "(I) went to the trial with high expectations but was very disappointed. No, beyond disappointment, I am filled with resentment," adding, "Former lawmaker Choi rather comforted me, who was feeling down."

He added, "It is President Yoon Seok-youl who was desperate to get rid of former lawmaker Choi. He might be toasting tonight. But it won't take long for him to realize that he messed with the wrong person."
