Hwaseong-si Emerges as an 'Education Internationalization Special Zone'

Earlier, after being designated as a related special zone in July, the city completed the establishment of a five-year plan (2023?2027) for the Hwaseong Education Internationalization Special Zone Project last month through collaboration with the Ministry of Education's consulting team, Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Hwaseong Osan Office of Education.

According to the plan, the city will invest a budget of 18.256 billion KRW over five years targeting elementary, middle, and high school students and youth within the city to promote nine projects in three areas: ▲ Establishment of an education internationalization foundation ▲ Enhancement of global leadership capabilities ▲ Harmony for regional co-prosperity and development.

In particular, starting next year, the city plans to focus on the ‘Hwaseong City Youth International Exchange’ project, where about 100 local students will go abroad to experience local cultures and engage in exchanges.

Additionally, the city will operate English and multicultural-related programs such as the 'English Specialized Small Library' at the municipal library and expand projects linking local educational resources for regional co-prosperity and development.

Furthermore, through the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Hwaseong Osan Office of Education, the city plans to promote native foreign language education and train leading teachers to strengthen foreign language education.

Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, “We will actively promote the Education Internationalization Special Zone project so that Hwaseong’s youth can grow into glocal leaders who lead the future and drive regional development.”
