Ulsan City Ulju-gun is promoting a groundwater restoration support project to prevent indiscriminate development of groundwater and water quality pollution accidents.
According to Article 15 of the 'Groundwater Act,' groundwater developers and users must fulfill the obligation to restore the facilities and land to their original state when groundwater use is terminated.
However, due to reasons such as water quality deterioration and water shortage, there are cases where groundwater is not used but restoration is avoided due to the economic burden of restoration costs, resulting in neglect.
Accordingly, Ulju-gun supports restoration costs of up to 1.2 million KRW per well when the owner promotes restoration through a registered construction contractor for groundwater use and development to preserve groundwater quality.
An official from Ulju-gun stated, “We expect that support for groundwater restoration costs will reduce individual burdens, induce proper handling of neglected wells, eliminate sources of water pollution, and establish an efficient groundwater management system.”
