A 'Sperm King Contest' held for male university students in China has become a hot topic. The participant selected as having the best sperm in this contest can receive a prize money.

According to reports from Global Times and HK01 on the 18th, the sperm bank under Zhengzhou University in Henan Province announced that it will collect sperm samples over 50 days to encourage young people to donate sperm. Participation is free, and the winner will receive a prize of up to 6,100 yuan, approximately 1.11 million Korean won.

This contest, targeting university students living in Zhengzhou, compensates based on expenses such as transportation and donation frequency, allowing up to 20 donations.

Age must be between 20 and 45 years old, height at least 165 cm, and sperm donation is restricted for smokers and alcoholics. Those with homosexual or promiscuous sexual experiences are also not allowed to donate sperm. Donors must abstain from sexual activity for 57 days from the donation date and maintain personal hygiene such as showering before visiting the health center.

The sperm bank stated, "The sperm quality of people in their 20s is the best. Therefore, we held this contest to secure the highest quality sperm," adding, "The winner is selected by evaluating sperm concentration, motility, volume, sperm deformity rate, and overall sperm strength, and the results are announced anonymously in data form."

Many university students in Zhengzhou expressed their willingness to participate in the sperm contest under their real names. One netizen posted on Weibo, "I will donate sperm as many times as I get 'likes'." Another netizen showed confidence by saying, "I can donate 20 times a day." There was also a netizen who said, "I don't need compensation, but if I win first place, I hope my name will be announced throughout China."

After this contest ends, the donated sperm will be anonymously given to those in need.

China's birth rate continues to decline, reaching a historic low of 1.09 in 2022. Currently, there are 29 sperm banks nationwide, but despite requesting donations from local university students in February, a shocking result showed that "high-quality sperm qualified for donation accounts for less than 20% of donors."

Facing an unprecedented youth unemployment due to economic recession, nearly 4 out of 10 university students in China have delayed employment. This is called Manchuiyeop. Manchuiyeop is a newly coined term referring to graduates who do not immediately seek employment but live with their parents while exploring entrepreneurship, further education, training, or studying abroad to improve their qualifications and find better jobs.

Manchuiyeop individuals are known to experience less stress from unemployment because their economically capable parents provide material support and do not pressure them to find a job hastily.

Thirty-two percent of the total survey respondents said they would study more through studying abroad or training, and 6% chose employment deferment. Employment deferment allows unemployed graduates who do not want their hukou (household registration) to be transferred to their original place after graduation to keep their hukou at the school for two years with approval from the provincial employment guidance center.

With a record high of 11.58 million university graduates this summer, youth unemployment is expected to rise further in the second half of the year, and authorities did not announce the youth unemployment rate for July.
