Ulsan City and Ulsan Metropolitan Dementia Center Commemorate 'Dementia Overcoming Day' Event

Warm Attention and Love, Let's Build a Dementia-Friendly City Together

Ulsan City, together with the Ulsan Metropolitan Dementia Center, will hold the "16th Dementia Overcoming Day Commemoration Event 2023" at 2 p.m. on the 18th at the Alps Hall of Ulju County Office in celebration of Dementia Overcoming Day.

This event was organized to comfort dementia patients and their families with citizens and to create a dementia-friendly city, Ulsan, by joining forces in dementia prevention and management.

The event will be attended by about 360 people, including dementia patients and their families, workers from related organizations, and interested citizens. The first part of the ceremony will begin with a pre-performance by the Jung-gu Boys and Girls Choir, followed by a congratulatory video screening, awards for meritorious persons and contest winners, and a "Let's Overcome Dementia Together" performance with the audience.

In the second part, in connection with the Central Dementia Center, a musical performance emphasizing the importance of dementia prevention through the theme of a dementia patient's time travel will be held to raise public awareness of the importance of dementia management.

An official from Ulsan City said, "We hope this will be an opportunity to rethink dementia, and let us work together to create a Ulsan free from dementia worries with warm interest and love."

"Dementia Overcoming Day" is on September 21 and was designated in 1995 by the World Health Organization (WHO) together with the International Alzheimer’s Disease Association (ADI) to raise awareness of the caregiving issues faced by families and society for dementia patients.

Korea has also designated this day as a commemorative day since 2008 and has held events to widely promote the importance of dementia management and to form a nationwide consensus for overcoming dementia. According to the "Dementia Management Act" enacted on August 4, 2011, September 21 was designated as the legal commemorative day "Dementia Overcoming Day."
