Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) will hold the '2023 Intercultural Festival' to improve multicultural awareness in the local community on September 23 at 11 a.m. in the Gwanak-gu Office Plaza.
Sponsored by Gwanak-gu, hosted by the Gwanak Rainbow Network, and organized by the Gwanak-gu Family Center, the 'Intercultural Festival' is a valuable event prepared to share and exchange various cultures within the community with residents. It has been held 16 times since 2008.
The festival is divided into two parts. Part 1 begins with a spectacular Taekwondo dance and Nanta performance that both locals and foreigners can enjoy, followed by the declaration of an intercultural city and a congratulatory performance by the Seoul National University cheerleading squad.
Additionally, the district will hold a talk concert titled 'Understanding Different Cultures' by 'Maporo' who fell in love with Korean pansori and came all the way from France to Korea, aiming to raise residents' interest and understanding of intercultural matters.
Part 2 continues with intercultural booth experience events. These include ▲K-traditional culture (Dalgona, ttakji-chigi, making Cheongsachorong lanterns, etc.) ▲world cultural costume experience ▲Chuseok and world holiday experiences with photo zones ▲making world flag bracelets ▲bubble shows, along with various experience booths. There will also be promotional booths for ▲fair trade products and sharing goods sales ▲specialized counseling for foreign residents and provision of living information.
Furthermore, the district will operate the 'Intercultural City Citizen Experience.' This includes ▲intercultural city quizzes ▲meeting intercultural friends ▲declaration and appointment of intercultural honorary ambassadors, offering unique events for residents of diverse cultures to enjoy an interesting time together through experiences.
Any resident of Gwanak-gu can participate in the festival. For more details, visit the Gwanak-gu website or contact the Gwanak-gu Family Center.
District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Through this festival, I hope many residents will take pride in their own culture and traditions, cultivate respect for other cultures, and coexist together within the local community. Going forward, the district will do its best to create an intercultural city that balances and promotes coexistence among different cultures.”
