Waste Collection on 'Yeonan Jeonghwa Day'
Preserving Marine Ecosystems, Practicing ESG Management
The 'public-private group' has joined forces to clean the waters off Ulsan Jujeon Port.
On the morning of the 16th, S-OIL announced on the 17th that it conducted the 3rd public-private-group collaborative coastal underwater waste collection activity at Jujeon Port in Dong-gu, Ulsan, in observance of the 'International Coastal Cleanup Day.'
International Coastal Cleanup Day is a global marine environmental conservation event held annually on the third Saturday of September. About 80 participants, including the Ulsan Coast Guard, the Ulsan branch of the Korea Maritime Rescue Association, and S-OIL volunteers, took part in this underwater cleanup activity.
S-OIL employees conducted the 3rd public-private-civil collaboration coastal underwater waste collection and cleanup activity at Jujeon Port in Dong-gu, Ulsan, on the morning of the 16th to mark the 'International Coastal Cleanup Day.'
Despite the rainy and windy weather that day, attendees worked hard for four hours picking up underwater waste such as discarded materials and fishing gear, as well as trash dumped along the coast during the summer season.
In May, S-OIL provided 50 million won in funding to the Korea Maritime Rescue Association to support underwater cleanup activities along the Ulsan coast. This money is used to support divers and operate equipment for underwater cleanup efforts.
An S-OIL official stated, "Starting this year, we plan to continue the underwater waste and sediment collection project along the Ulsan coast with direct participation from our employees in cooperation with marine-related organizations in the Ulsan area," adding, "Through these underwater cleanup activities, we aim to improve the marine ecosystem and environment in Ulsan and practice ESG management."
