Sentenced to 8 Months Imprisonment with 2 Years Probation
A man in his 30s who was dissatisfied with construction noise at a villa in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, threw two stones and fired 80 steel marbles, and was sentenced to prison.
On the 16th, Judge Min Seong-cheol of the Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced A (39), who was indicted on charges of special property damage and property damage, to 8 months in prison with a 2-year probation. He was also ordered to undergo 1 year of probation and 80 hours of community service.
On March 8, A threw two stones at a villa about 50 meters away from his home, breaking two glass windows worth approximately 600,000 won. On the 16th of the same month, he damaged one 4th-floor window and two 5th-floor windows using a slingshot and steel marbles; on the 22nd, he damaged one 4th-floor window and one 5th-floor window; and on the 25th, he damaged one 5th-floor window.
On the 27th of the same month, A also sprayed whipped cream on two motorcycles parked in front of a park in Gwangjin-gu.
The court stated, “The defendant is a first-time offender, and the act of firing steel marbles with a slingshot was directed at a building under construction, causing damage to glass windows but no casualties or other harm. The damage to the motorcycles was taken into consideration as the defendant reached a settlement with the victims.”
