The Dong-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that it will establish institutional measures to allow people to manage their health by walking barefoot on dirt paths.
Chairman Kim Jae-sik recently proposed the "Barefoot Walking Activation and Support Ordinance." It is scheduled to be approved and promulgated after the 2nd plenary session of the 303rd extraordinary meeting on the 15th.
The ordinance defines dirt paths suitable for barefoot walking as barefoot walking trails and stipulates the responsibilities of the district mayor and the establishment and implementation of support plans to promote barefoot walking.
It also mandates administrative and financial support necessary for the activation and support of barefoot walking.
Barefoot walking is known to produce various beneficial effects by stimulating the soles of the feet through different friction with the ground, which transmits these stimuli to reflex zones, resulting in reduced physical stress, activation of digestive organs, brain stimulation, skin improvement, and anti-aging effects.
Chairman Kim said, “If barefoot walking becomes popular in our Dong-gu, I am confident that it will transform into a healthy Dong-gu for people of all ages and genders, including the elderly.”
