Jung-gu Operates 'One-Day On-Site District Office' in 15 Neighborhoods from September to November
Practicing Communication Administration by Listening to Diverse and Vivid On-Site Voices and Reflecting Them in Administration
On the 12th in Sindang-dong, Meeting with Merchants, Daycare Parents, and Redevelopment Officials to Hear Opinions
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) will operate the ‘One-Day On-Site District Mayor’s Office’ by visiting 15 neighborhoods until November.
The ‘One-Day On-Site District Mayor’s Office’ is a communication platform where the district mayor meets more residents to listen closely to the voices from the field of daily life and reflect them in administration and policies. The mayor visits places where complaints are frequently raised, major project sites, and disaster-vulnerable areas to find solutions together with residents.
On the 12th, Mayor Kim Gil-seong visited Sindang-dong and met with about 50 people including representatives of merchants, daycare parents, and residents of redevelopment areas to hear their suggestions and proposals.
Merchants of the alley-type shopping district in Sindang-dong requested “to ease parking and stopping enforcement to revitalize the commercial area.” So far, the district has faced difficulties in enforcement because it needs to reduce damages caused by illegal parking to residents and consider fairness with other areas.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, proposed, “We will persuade residents living nearby to find ways to coexist and publicize the issues of the alley commercial district after sufficient discussions with the residents’ autonomy committee.” He also promised, “Jung-gu will continue to consider the shortage of parking lots.”
During the meeting with daycare parents, noise issues from the village yard were raised as a topic. One parent said, “When 1- to 2-year-old children have outdoor learning at the playground near the daycare center, some residents claim the children’s playing sounds are noise,” adding, “It is regrettable that children cannot run freely in the village yard, which the district office carefully renovated to suit the children’s perspective.”
Mayor Kim Gil-seong suggested to the accompanying conflict management team leader on site, “Let’s apply the know-how of mediating conflicts between residents to this case as well.” The conflict management team leader replied, “We will conduct in-depth interviews with the parties involved and connect the district office’s support based on the results.”
Lastly, Mayor Kim Gil-seong met with stakeholders of the Sindang 10 District redevelopment area. Since the designation of the maintenance district in June 2023, this area has started direct establishment of the association with partial budget support from Seoul City. Mayor Kim said, “Jung-gu has transparently disclosed all development processes and provided accurate information to gain residents’ trust,” adding, “If you continue to trust and follow these efforts of the district, we will repay you with a better residential environment.”
Afterwards, Mayor Kim Gil-seong visited the Sindang-dong alley-type shopping district, village yard, and redevelopment area in person and continued additional conversations with residents met on site.
The ‘One-Day On-Site District Mayor’s Office,’ which started in Hoehyeon-dong on the 11th, is scheduled to pass the baton to Myeong-dong on November 17.
