The 8th Yeongdeok County Governor's Cup National Table Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Yeongdeok County Sports Council and organized by the Yeongdeok County Table Tennis Association, was held over two days on the 9th and 10th at the Yeongdeok National Sports Center.
About 500 table tennis enthusiasts from across the country participated in this tournament, competing fiercely in individual and team events while fostering strong friendship and harmony.
The opening ceremony on the 9th was attended by Kim Gwang-yeol, Yeongdeok County Governor; Son Deok-su, Chairman of the County Council, along with council members; Kim Seo-gyu, President of the Sports Council; Yoon Hyuk-jin, President of the Gyeongbuk Province Table Tennis Association; and Hwang Chang-sik, President of the Yeongdeok County Table Tennis Association, who all cheered on the passionate table tennis players nationwide.
Also present to add prestige to the event were Yu Nam-gyu, gold medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and current coach of the KRX Korea Exchange professional table tennis team, along with team captain Kim Dong-hyun.
The tournament was divided into men's and women's individual singles, individual doubles, and team events. Winners in each category included ▲Advanced Men's Singles: Min Tae-hong (Avengers) ▲Advanced Women's Singles: Hwang Ji-mi (Butterfly) ▲Intermediate Men's Singles: Lee Jae-young (O.TAK) ▲Intermediate Women's Singles: Ahn Hyun-yeon (68 Korai) ▲Beginner Singles: Shin Hae-soon (Osipcheon) ▲Doubles: Jeon Ki-sung & Park Jin-hwan (Avengers) ▲Advanced Team: Lee Jin-ho, Lee Kyu-beom, Kim Ye-jong (Uiseong MS) ▲Intermediate Team: Kim Dong-hoon, Jeon Jong-hyun, Park Kwang-ryeol (Uljin Yeonho C).
Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, “I send my support and encouragement for the passion and sportsmanship shown by everyone at the Yeongdeok County Governor's Cup National Table Tennis Tournament, which has become a festival for table tennis enthusiasts. We will strive to further promote local table tennis activation and development based on the success of this tournament.”
Yeongdeok County plans to contribute to the revitalization of local sports by thoroughly preparing for the 33rd Gyeongbuk Province Sports for All Festival starting on the 22nd, as well as various sports-for-all and nationwide sports competitions scheduled for the second half of the year.
