The case of ‘Installation of Adjacent Two-Household Shelters for Abused Children’ in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, was selected as an exemplary benchmarking case in the shadow and behavioral regulation improvement evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been conducting annual evaluations nationwide since 2019 to resolve regulatory difficulties, alleviate inconveniences for citizens and businesses, and revitalize the local economy.
When Anyang-si faced regulations that only allowed shelters for abused children to be installed in single houses, the city was recognized for its proactive and systematic benchmarking and active consultation and communication with related organizations to enable the rapid installation of shelters by utilizing two adjacent houses.
Anyang-si previously visited Uijeongbu-si, which was the first in the nation to install adjacent (two connected houses) shelters, and in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), opened the abused children’s shelter ‘Nuribom’ in August last year.
Nuribom is a facility where seven girls under the age of 18, who need urgent separation and protection from their homes due to abuse, can live. Six professionals work in shifts 24 hours a day, providing support for daily living, psychological counseling and treatment, and educational assistance for the children.
Choi Dae-ho, Mayor of Anyang-si, said, "I am pleased that Anyang-si’s passion for regulatory innovation has been recognized as an achievement," and promised, "We will resolve regulations that overshadow citizens’ daily lives like shadows, alleviate inconveniences for citizens and businesses, and realize a smart happy city leading innovative growth."
