100 Class Monitors Practice Carbon Neutrality in Daily Life
Learning to Use Class Monitor CarbonZero Mileage and Spreading It in the Community
Membership Event with Family, Friends, and Neighbors Until Year-End... 500 Mileage for Monitors, 1000 for New Members
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is spreading the Zero Carbon Mileage program through community leaders representing neighborhood residents to promote carbon neutrality practices in daily life.
Zero Carbon Mileage is a Dobong-style environmental mileage program that incentivizes various carbon neutrality activities in everyday life with local currency rewards to respond to the climate crisis.
First, the district will provide training over two days, on the 14th and 15th, at Dobong-gu Office for about 100 community leaders selected through recommendations from neighborhood community centers. The training will cover ▲understanding carbon neutrality ▲how to register for Zero Carbon Mileage ▲how to practice and certify activities, and other usage methods.
Afterward, the community leaders will practice carbon neutrality activities in their daily lives based on the training and promote mileage registration and participation in these activities among family, friends, and neighbors.
To encourage the leaders’ role as promoters and increase resident participation in the mileage program, the “Zero Carbon Mileage with Community Leaders” event will be held from September 14 through the end of the year. During this period, new members who register through a leader’s recommendation will receive 1,000 mileage points, and the leader will receive 500 mileage points as special rewards. Each leader can recommend up to 20 new members.
Additionally, through the leaders’ activities, the district will gather residents’ feedback on any inconveniences or improvements needed in using the Zero Carbon Mileage program and reflect these opinions to develop a more resident-participatory mileage system that better serves the community.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “We thank all participating community leaders, and since they know the area best and are directly involved, we expect the practice and spread of carbon neutrality to be promoted effectively.”
Dobong-gu has been operating the Zero Carbon Mileage program, which offers local currency incentives, since April 3 this year, the first of its kind nationwide. In July, it received the top award in the climate environment category at the “2023 National Basic Local Government Manifesto Best Practice Competition” in recognition of the mileage program’s originality, resident impact, and sustainability.
