Yoon Holds MIKTA Summit in New Delhi: "Member States Must Unite to Overcome Complex Crises"

Mikta Adopts Joint Statement on Solidarity for Key Issues

President Yoon Suk-yeol emphasized on the 9th, during the G20 summit, the need for MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, T?rkiye, Australia) member countries, which come from different regional and cultural backgrounds, to unite with one voice in solidarity to overcome the global complex crisis.


At the MIKTA leaders' meeting held in New Delhi, India, President Yoon stated, "We must strengthen cooperation to create universal digital order norms among MIKTA member countries during the digital transformation process, and also activate exchanges among youth to create opportunities for the future generations of each country."


This meeting was hosted by Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, the chair country of MIKTA this year. The member country leaders evaluated the activities and achievements of MIKTA, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, and discussed future cooperation plans.

President Yoon highly praised that MIKTA has continuously engaged in dialogue and exchange over the past 10 years to strengthen a norm-based international order and multilateralism based on shared values such as democracy and the rule of law.


The MIKTA member country leaders, taking this meeting as an opportunity, emphasized the necessity of solidarity to respond to major international issues such as climate change, poverty, and pandemic response, and adopted a joint declaration expressing their commitment to contribute.


The joint declaration includes ▲ Strengthening the multilateral system centered on the United Nations and reaffirming the will to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter ▲ Advancing democratic dialogue and seeking practical and creative solutions to regional and global challenges ▲ Sharing mutual opinions and enhancing understanding, seeking common ground to deepen bilateral relations and cooperation, and continuing to function as a cross-regional consultative body ▲ Deepening coordination among MIKTA member countries within relevant multilateral and regional forums and strengthening joint actions on international issues of common interest ▲ Enhancing interregional cooperation and serving as a bridge between developed and developing countries ▲ Assigning foreign ministers of each country the task of coordinating commitments and implementing follow-up measures.


The Presidential Office explained, "This leaders' meeting is evaluated as an opportunity to reaffirm the will to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among MIKTA member countries and to jointly contribute to responding to major international issues."
