Eunpyeong-gu Indonesian Delegation Returns Successfully from August 28 to September 2 Visit... Kim Mi-kyung, Eunpyeong-gu Mayor, "Eunpyeong-gu's International Status Rises... Pleased with Results Beyond Expectations"
Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it conducted a tour visiting Sumedang, Bandung, and Jakarta for international exchange with Indonesia.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, toured three Indonesian cities for 4 nights and 6 days from August 28 to September 2. This tour was realized through the continuous exchange proposal and invitation from the Sumedang Regent, who had dispatched senior officials to Eunpyeong-gu last December for benchmarking excellent digital policies.
Located in Southeast Asia with a population of about 280 million, Indonesia marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with South Korea this year and is currently one of the countries showing the most remarkable growth rate in trade.
The Eunpyeong-gu delegation to Indonesia consisted of 11 members including the district mayor, staff from the Administrative Support Division, Smart Policy Division, Family Policy Division, and interpreters, completing a busy schedule over 4 nights and 5 days.
First, Eunpyeong-gu visited Sumedang to hold a friendship exchange and memorandum of cooperation signing ceremony, promising joint development and exchanges in various fields between the two regions. Afterwards, the venue moved to the main auditorium of the government office, where officials related to smart information from Sumedang and nearby areas gathered. Eunpyeong-gu presented and discussed policies implemented so far for smart city creation, key projects of the 8th local government term, and future tasks. A meaningful event was also held to deliver refurbished laptops to vulnerable youth in Sumedang who are digitally marginalized.
Eunpyeong-gu then moved to Bandung to continue exchanges with West Java Province. They visited Sekoper Cinta, a women’s professional education institution in West Java with a population of 50 million, where the district mayor gave an invited lecture focusing on Eunpyeong-gu’s excellent cases in women and child policies and policies for the socially disadvantaged, followed by discussions on information exchange and support measures. They also met Mrs. Atalia Praratya, wife of Ridwan Kamil, Governor of West Java and founder of Sekoper Cinta, agreeing to maintain continuous meetings.
Additionally, Eunpyeong-gu supported local businesspeople’s overseas expansion by holding a meeting with executives of the Bandung Korean Association and visiting the KOTRA Jakarta Trade Center to understand Indonesia’s economic trends and major conditions. They exchanged opinions on promising sectors and precautions for market entry and discussed concrete cooperation plans. At this meeting, the Bandung Korean Association agreed to visit Eunpyeong-gu next month to arrange a meeting with the Eunpyeong-gu Chamber of Commerce, and Eunpyeong-gu promised to provide teaching materials to the Korean language school operated by the association.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “Since the COVID-19 situation has entered a stabilization phase, we have been receiving so many requests for exchanges that we cannot accommodate them all. Various countries around the world request visits to Eunpyeong-gu for diverse purposes or invite us to their countries. We truly feel the rising international status of Eunpyeong-gu, and this Indonesia tour achieved results beyond expectations.” She added, “We will continue to do our best for Eunpyeong-gu’s international exchanges.”
