Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 7th that it has selected a total of seven works in the public and general categories as winners of the ‘2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Awards’ and plans to present the awards at the opening ceremony of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Architecture Exhibition to be held in Pohang starting October 5.
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Architectural Culture Awards are given to designers, constructors, and building owners of buildings completed within the last three years that possess outstanding artistic value and symbolism, aiming to improve the quality of architectural culture and spread beautiful architecture.
The winning works serve as artworks integrated into the daily lives of Gyeongbuk residents, embodying public value and playing a significant role in enhancing the status of regional architectural culture. Since June, 21 works were submitted through a public call in the public and general categories, and after a judging committee review, a total of seven works were finally selected.
The grand prize was awarded to the employee welfare center ‘Architecture as a Background,’ which features a small park within a semiconductor factory complex located in Gumi. The excellence awards went to ‘Kimcheon Donggeuran House,’ which embraces nature and family, and ‘Pohang Heunghaerang,’ which uses baked bamboo cladding to create a comfortable space with sculptural qualities.
The merit awards were given to ‘Seongju County Office Annex,’ ‘Gyeongju Stay Hadamdam,’ ‘Gyeongsan Sadong Hanas Building,’ and ‘Yeongcheon Three Brothers House.’ The winning and submitted works will be exhibited at the Architecture Exhibition for the residents of the province to view.
Park Dong-yeop, Director of the Construction and Urban Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, “To enhance the dignity of architecture and foster the creative development of architectural culture, it is most important to actively support the creative activities of architects who build the future.” He added, “Gyeongbuk Province plans to continuously discover and support excellent buildings to realize public value.”
