The Social and Urban Committee of the Seo-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 7th that it sought ways to develop the region through a study tour of Yeosu Urban Management Corporation and other areas in Yeosu City, as well as Suncheon Urban Regeneration Village, on the 4th and 5th.
On the 4th, members of the Social and Urban Committee of the Seo-gu Council visited Jukpo Port Dumun Village, a target site of the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, and Goso Angel Mural Village, a city regeneration attraction known for its murals. They also toured the Yeosu Urban Management Corporation to observe the waste disposal process and the sorting of recyclable waste.
On the 5th, they visited the Jeojeon-dong Garden Village area in Suncheon City, which is gaining attention as an urban regeneration project.
Centered around the Vitamin Center, established as a resident education space, they learned about cases of utilizing vacant houses for village hotels and share houses to improve residential environments, as well as the use of idle land through neighbor gardens scattered throughout the village.
The council members listened to officials about the progress of the Jeojeon-dong urban regeneration project and methods to encourage resident participation, and held a passionate discussion on the success of Seo-gu's urban regeneration projects.
Chairman Jeon Seung-il said, "This comparative study tour was a valuable time to experience advanced cases of waste disposal and successful urban regeneration projects," adding, "We will strive to apply such excellent cases to Seo-gu to create villages where residents can live better."
