Unified Distributed App Service... Securing Platform Competitiveness
Focus on Expanding Fan Experience and Optimizing Usability
Expecting Qualitative and Quantitative Growth through Service Internalization

SM Entertainment announced on the 7th that it will launch a new app, SMTOWN, which integrates various functions for fan activities into one platform. The SMTOWN app was built under the concept of ‘SMTOWN A to Z,’ consolidating various functions that had been operated separately. It combines the schedule feature, digital stamp collection, and AR content viewer from previously separate mobile app services into a single service.

This revamp is part of the SM 3.0: IP Monetization Strategy unveiled last February. At that time, CEO Jang Cheol-hyuk stated, “We will immediately begin integrating and internalizing platforms, which has been a long-standing task within SM,” and added, “Building an integrated platform optimized for usability from the fans’ perspective is one of our top priorities.”

The main features of SMTOWN include ▲Artist Schedule Check (SCHEDULE) ▲Artist Light Stick Integration (LIGHT STICK) ▲Digital Passport Stamp Collection (PASSPORT) ▲AR (Augmented Reality) Content Experience ▲Direct Access to Online Shop (SHOP). Users can access desired functions with a single button click on the app’s main screen. The app also introduces a favorite artist setting feature, organizing menus based on user preference data to provide a convenient service. Notably, features such as artist schedule notifications, light stick battery status checks, and name change functions, which were not available in the previous SMTOWN app, have been added.

SM plans to drive qualitative and quantitative growth through IT service internalization with the SMTOWN app update. In addition to securing platform competitiveness, SM aims to expand its IT business based on the SMTOWN service in the future. Meanwhile, starting from the ‘NCT NATION: To The World’ concerts held four times from the 9th at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka and Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo, the SMTOWN app’s light stick integration will be launched.
