Jeong Eun-kyung, Former Director of KDCA, Appointed Clinical Professor in Family Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital

Jeong Eun-kyung, the former commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) who led COVID-19 prevention efforts as its inaugural head, has been appointed as a clinical professor at Seoul National University Hospital.

According to Seoul National University Hospital on the 6th, Jeong was appointed on the 1st as a clinical professor (funded) in the Department of Family Medicine at Seoul National University Hospital by the president of Seoul National University and the hospital director. Her term lasts until August 31, 2029. Funded clinical professors perform student education, training, research, medical services, and other projects necessary to improve public health in accordance with the Seoul National University Funded Professors Operation Regulations and the Seoul National University Hospital Establishment Act. However, it is known that Jeong will not be involved in patient care duties.


Jeong, a graduate of Seoul National University College of Medicine, served as director of the Disease Policy Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare before becoming head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the predecessor of KDCA) in July 2017. After the CDC was elevated to an agency in September 2020, she became its first commissioner and led it for a total of 4 years and 10 months until her retirement in May last year. After retiring, she worked as a member of the Infectious Disease Policy Research Committee at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital.
