The Mokpo Sports Complex will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the National Sports Festival, the opening ceremony of the Para Games, and athletics events, which are considered the highlights of the games. The facility covers a total floor area of 26,468㎡, including the main stadium and auxiliary stadium. The main stadium has three floors above ground and seating for 16,468 spectators.

The stadium is a certified Class 1 athletics stadium equipped with a natural grass field and a 9-lane athletics track. It was designed as an open stadium symbolizing Mokpo’s harmony and future, with the roof shaped like a crane, the city bird of Mokpo.

The construction of the stadium involved a total project cost of 116.3 billion KRW, including 20 billion KRW in national funds and 33 billion KRW in provincial funds.

Construction began in February 2019, following the announcement of the basic construction plan for the Mokpo Sports Complex in November 2018. After 44 months of construction, all work was completed in August of this year.
