Bacteria-Resistant Functional Fibers
Enhancing Infection Prevention Performance
Hyosung TNC partners with Blackyak to promote resource circulation.
On the 6th, Hyosung TNC announced that it held a “Colorless Waste PET Bottle Resource Circulation System Expansion Business Agreement Ceremony” at the Blackyak headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, together with BYN Blackyak to practice environmental protection.
Hyosung TNC is responsible for developing and producing polyester fibers recycled from waste PET bottles, while Blackyak will expand the production of upcycled products using these fibers.
The ‘Regen with Blackyak’ fiber produced through the collaboration between the two companies is made by collecting PET bottles separately disposed of by various local governments and companies partnered with Blackyak in resource circulation, washing and finely shredding them, then delivering them to Hyosung TNC, which melts and spins them into fibers.

Regen with Blackyak is applied to Blackyak’s lightweight and comfortable T-shirts and pants. From raw materials to final products, it collaborates with domestic companies using domestically sourced materials.
Hyosung TNC plans to add antibacterial functionality to Regen with Blackyak and produce antibacterial functional yarn as well. The antibacterial functional fibers produced by Hyosung TNC are used as fabric for ‘Safe Pockets,’ protecting customers from bacteria.
Considering the frequent contact of pockets with hands, Blackyak uses fabric with antibacterial functional yarn for pocket materials and releases products tagged as ‘Safe Pockets.’
Starting with recycled fibers such as Regen, Hyosung TNC is innovating its business into eco-friendly fibers and fashion fields, including bio fibers and biodegradable fibers. Blackyak is diversifying its new business areas by applying know-how accumulated through cooperation with experts such as mountaineers to functional clothing and gear that protect both nature and people in outdoor environments.
Kim Chi-hyung, CEO of Hyosung TNC, said, “Regen with Blackyak reflects customer voices not only in terms of eco-friendliness but also functionality,” adding, “We will focus on expanding the global market by significantly increasing the proportion of eco-friendly fibers in the high value-added functional fiber market.”
