Lee Hyori, who contributed to a 300% sales growth over four years through Samsung's Anycall phone advertisements, recently gained attention by posting photos taken with an iPhone.

Lee Hyori was the longest-running Samsung Anycall advertising model. Anycall dominated the industry by planning advertisements in the form of music videos featuring Lee Hyori prominently.

Not only the phone itself but also the music video-style advertisements were a hot topic. The ‘Anymotion’ and ‘Anyclub’ music videos topped mobile content charts, and their soundtracks were also greatly loved.

Currently, Samsung and Apple are fiercely competing, dividing the global smartphone market.

The top four best-selling smartphones in the first half of this year were all iPhones. According to market research firm Omdia, the best-selling smartphone was the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 26.5 million units sold, followed by the iPhone 14 Pro with 21 million units. Next were the iPhone 14 with 16.5 million units and the iPhone 13 with 15.5 million units, establishing a solid Apple kingdom.

Samsung ranked from fifth place onward, trailing Apple. The Galaxy A14 sold 12.4 million units, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra sold 9.6 million units, ranking fifth and sixth respectively. Following were the Galaxy A14 5G with 9 million units, Galaxy A54 5G with 8.8 million units, and Galaxy A34 5G with 7.1 million units. From tenth place onward, Apple appeared again.

Domestically, Galaxy’s dominance is clear. According to a survey conducted last month by Korea Gallup titled ‘2023 Smartphone Usage & Brand, Smartwatch, and Wireless Earphone Survey,’ brand usage rates were Samsung Galaxy 69% and Apple iPhone 23%.

However, iPhone preference is becoming more pronounced among younger generations. In the 18 to 29 age group, Samsung Galaxy accounted for 32%, while iPhone was overwhelmingly higher at 65%.

A major cause of this concentration is the active expression of iPhone love by famous celebrities who have significant influence on this age group.

NewJeans, the new face of the iPhone, not only filmed their new song ‘ETA’ music video with an iPhone but also revealed scenes of members dancing while holding iPhones.

The group IVE, which won both the Rookie of the Year and Grand Prize last year, also posted selfies taken with an iPhone. Even BLACKPINK, who was a Galaxy advertising model, posted selfies taken with an iPhone on social media immediately after their contract ended.
