Seol Hoon, Democratic Party Lawmaker, Mentions Impeachment in Government Questioning
"If Government and Ruling Party Are Not at Fault, Prove It with a Special Prosecutor"
Park Sung-jun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, stated during a National Assembly interpellation session that although the impeachment mentioned by fellow party member Rep. Seol Hoon against President Yoon Seok-yeol was a "personal stance," he has continuously raised concerns about whether President Yoon's governance system is functioning properly.
On the 6th, Park appeared on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' and said, "I understand that there are a few other lawmakers besides Rep. Seol who are talking about impeachment."
Earlier, on the 5th, Rep. Seol mentioned impeachment during a National Assembly interpellation session while questioning Prime Minister Han Duck-soo about suspicions of interference in the investigation of the 'Corporal Chae Sang-byeong death case.'
Regarding this, Park said, "There were revelations about external interference in the accurate investigation and the investigation process of Corporal Chae's death. There were allegations that this was covered up or distorted due to the influence of strong power, and one day, it was said that there was a connection related to the Presidential Office and President Yoon Seok-yeol."
He continued, "As a member of the National Assembly, raising such suspicions during an interpellation session, and if that is the case, it constitutes abuse of authority, a clear illegal act, and a disruption of the national order, so Rep. Seol raised the issue demanding that the president take responsibility."
When the host asked, "Do you mean that the mention of impeachment is a political term?" he replied, "I am speaking beyond it being a political term."
Park added, "If the People Power Party and President Yoon's office claim there is no wrongdoing, then they should undergo a special investigation or a national audit to clarify the matter. It should be addressed straightforwardly, but since that is not happening now, if this is seen as an ongoing effort to cover it up, then it is a disruption of the national order and illegal. That is why Rep. Seol is raising the issue."
