Now in its second year, the Chong Kun Dang Classroom Forest project was organized to celebrate the 'Blue Sky Day' on the 7th, in collaboration with the forest creation specialized social enterprise Triple Planet, to gift children clean air and provide an eco-friendly educational space. Last year, classroom forests were established at Tangjeong Elementary School in Asan, Chungnam, and Jungang Elementary School in Ansan, Gyeonggi.
This year’s activity took place in 23 classes across two schools: Seonggeo Elementary School in Cheonan, where the Chong Kun Dang Cheonan plant is located, and Hapdeok Elementary School in Dangjin, where the Chong Kun Dang Health Dangjin plant is located. A total of 546 trees, including air-purifying Areca palms and the endangered species Alocasia macrorrhizos, were planted. Additionally, flower pots made from leftover fabric of disposable masks discarded by the factory and recycled PET bottles were provided to convey the meaning of eco-friendliness to the children.
Chong Kun Dang Holdings expects that the 546 trees delivered this time will absorb 81 kg of carbon dioxide and 245 g of fine dust annually, while increasing oxygen production by 990 kg per year, significantly improving air quality. In the second half of this year, the company plans to plant endangered species seedlings in a nursery equal to the number of 546 trees to further contribute to creating clean air with more plants.
A representative of Chong Kun Dang Holdings said, “We hope that children will realize the importance of the environment and practice eco-friendliness firsthand in a healthy learning space,” adding, “We will continue to expand eco-friendly social contribution activities to respond to the climate crisis and preserve biodiversity.”
