Lock&Lock Installs 41 Mojak Benches So Far
Each Bench Uses 16kg of Waste Plastic
Lock&Lock announced on the 6th that it has installed eight 'Mojak Benches' made from waste plastic along Jeju Olle Trail Courses 2 and 21 in celebration of the 15th Resource Circulation Day.
The Mojak Benches provide resting spots for Jeju locals and Olle Trail travelers. At the same time, they convey the significance of resource circulation and environmental protection. Approximately 16 kg of waste plastic is used to produce one Mojak Bench.
'Mojak' is a Jeju dialect word meaning 'knot.' It carries the meaning that "objects, people, and nature are all connected, and protecting nature well is equivalent to protecting people well."
So far, Lock&Lock has installed a total of 41 Mojak Benches. They can be found along Jeju Olle Trail Courses 2, 4, 7, 11, 14, 15-A, 18, and 21. When converted to the amount of plastic used, it equals 5,945 plastic food storage containers of 460 ml capacity.
The installation of Mojak Benches was carried out as part of the 'Love for Planet Campaign,' which collects old plastic airtight containers and transforms them into household goods and public facilities. This year, the campaign expanded nationwide and introduced a pick-up collection service. So far, a cumulative total of 4.5 tons of plastic airtight containers have been collected, equivalent to about 45,000 containers of 460 ml capacity.
Juri Kim, manager at Lock&Lock, said, "We have been producing Mojak Benches together with Jeju Olle with the meaning and sincerity of hoping to protect the beautiful Earth and environment," adding, "We will continue to explore and implement various ways to preserve the environment and resources to contribute to the spread of a resource circulation culture."
