At the meeting, President Song Ha-cheol stated, “We are promoting various projects to enable local residents to easily use the excellent environment of the campus.”
The wall separating the university and the Dorim-ri shopping district will be demolished, and a busking performance venue will be created, allowing residents to enjoy cultural performances held at the school starting in October.
From next year, part of the stands at the main stadium will be removed to create a walking path and entrance so that people can enter the school’s main stadium directly from National Road No. 1 along the roadside.
In addition, the university plans to remodel school facilities to transform them into a cultural and artistic hub for the region by utilizing them as a movie theater and performance hall.
Along with school facilities, tennis, table tennis, and group health programs conducted at the sports center will be available at affordable costs, and the exercise rehabilitation center, scheduled to open in the second half of this year, plans to operate exercise rehabilitation programs for local residents and athletes.

Meanwhile, a large number of Mokpo University professors with expertise have participated in the Cheonggye-myeon urban regeneration project and Cheonggye alleyway market revitalization project promoted by Muan-gun, presenting a campus town development direction that unites the university and the local community.
Local residents who listened to Mokpo University’s plans said, “It was a good opportunity to confirm that National Mokpo University is making a significant contribution to the development of the Cheonggye-myeon area,” and suggested, “Please create a walking path for barefoot walking on campus to promote the health of local residents.” President Song Ha-cheol responded, “We will consider establishing a barefoot walking path when promoting the main stadium maintenance project.”
President Song Ha-cheol stated, “We plan to continuously maintain and open campus facilities so that local residents can freely use various school facilities and programs,” adding, “We will fulfill the responsibilities of a national university by communicating with local residents.”
