Busan Pavilion Operated, Introducing Busan Smart City Projects … Elevating Busan's Status as a Green Smart City
Busan City will participate in the ‘2023 World Smart City Expo (WSCE 2023)’ held at KINTEX in Ilsan for three days from the 6th to the 8th, actively promoting the current status and achievements of Busan’s smart city projects.
A smart city refers to a ‘smart city’ where advanced information and communication technologies are used to solve major urban problems, allowing citizens to enjoy a convenient and comfortable life.
The ‘World Smart City Expo’ is the largest smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region. Since its first event in 2017, it has provided a platform for knowledge exchange in the smart city field, opportunities to build global networks, and is recognized as a representative international event showcasing innovative smart city-related technologies.
The event is hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Busan City is participating for the third time this year. Last year, over 30,000 domestic and international stakeholders from 60 countries attended the event.
This year’s event will feature a variety of programs including the opening ceremony, WSCE Awards, various conferences, and business meetings, with exhibitions related to smart city technologies such as ▲smart infrastructure ▲smart buildings ▲smart homes ▲smart mobility, as well as autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility (UAM) experience zones.
Busan City will set up a Busan Pavilion at the event to introduce Busan’s smart city promotion projects, including ▲Digital Twin-based Smart City Lab Demonstration Complex Project ▲Digital Twin Innovation Service Leading Project ▲Global Smart City Hub Center Project.
These three projects involve a total of 11 institutions, including the city government, local universities, research institutes, medical institutions, and private companies in Busan.
The Busan Pavilion will showcase technologies and products being developed and researched in each project area.
Digital Twin refers to the virtual representation of real-world machines, equipment, and objects in a computer-generated virtual world.
In the Digital Twin-based Smart City Lab Demonstration Complex Project, technologies that monitor road flooding situations and disaster safety conditions inside buildings using digital twin technology will be introduced.
This project involves Dong-A University, the Construction Technology Research Institute, ZeroWeb, and KAIST.
In the Digital Twin Innovation Service Leading Project, safety demonstration services for medical facilities using digital twin technology and air quality management terminals will be introduced.
This project is a collaboration between the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, Busan Medical Center, Intown, and Neotek.
In the Global Smart City Hub Center Project, products and services of outstanding local smart city companies selected through a public contest? Two Hands Interactive, Samwoo Immersion, and Formit?will be promoted.
They will showcase ‘DIDIM,’ an indoor exercise and play platform using augmented reality (Two Hands Interactive), and a real-time vertical field control system (Formit), among others.
Lee Kyung-deok, Director of the Future Industry Bureau, stated, “Busan has the country’s first smart city pilot residential area, Smart Village, and our city is striving to develop and demonstrate digital twin-based smart city service technologies based on the national smart city pilot city.” He added, “Participation in this exhibition will be an opportunity to showcase Busan’s excellent technological capabilities and elevate the status of Green Smart City Busan to the world.”
