Seoyoungkyo: "Lee Jae-myung's Hunger Strike Is for National Interest, Not Personal Gain"

YTN 'News King Park Ji-hoon' Interview
"Aimed to Reject Arrest Consent? Nonsense"

Seo Young-kyo, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said about Lee Jae-myung's hunger strike, "It is planned to proceed resolutely for the national interest, not for personal gain."

In an interview on the 5th with YTN Radio's 'News King Park Ji-hoon,' Seo responded to claims that Lee's hunger strike was aimed at the rejection of the arrest warrant by saying, "Such talk comes from irrelevant places," and emphasized, "It is a resolute stance completely unrelated to that."

Regarding the ruling party's criticism calling it a 'commute hunger strike' or 'well-being hunger strike,' Seo retorted, "Mocking it crudely is ineffective and unbecoming of the ruling party."

He continued, "Rather than that, the president should send the Chief Secretary for Political Affairs to say 'Please stop,' and 'Let's have a dialogue.' Isn't that what politics is supposed to be? The ruling party should also say, 'Let's have a dialogue instead of a hunger strike,' which would be the proper stance of those in power," he pointed out.

Seo added, "In fact, Lee Jae-myung regretted everything while on the hunger strike. There were even discussions about whether the hunger strike was necessary. However, it was explained that the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water has ultimately been carried out," and said, "Even if the opposition leader acts according to the law, the president exercises the veto power, refuses to engage in dialogue, and the people suffer. What else can be done? Everyone is determined as if someone must disappear," he added.
