In the selection process for the host city of the 19th National Convention, Gumi City and Yeoncheon County fiercely competed to win the bid.

From August 31 to September 1, a two-day evaluation was conducted to finalize the venue for the national convention. A panel of 26 evaluators, led by the Senior Vice President of the Korea Next-Generation Farmers Central Federation as the chairperson, assessed each city and county’s hosting plans and conducted on-site inspections. As a result, Gumi City was highly rated for its accommodation and convenience facilities, accessibility and transportation conditions, and the establishment of infrastructure for lodging sites, leading to its final selection as the host city.

On the day of the on-site evaluation, August 31, Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi, Chairman Ahn Joo-chan of the Gumi City Council, along with city and provincial council members, agricultural organization presidents, and members actively promoted the necessity of Gumi’s bid and united their efforts to secure the convention.

The ‘2024 Korea Next-Generation Farmers National Convention,’ held biennially as the largest festival for farmers in Korea, is a major event with about 40,000 farmers participating nationwide. It will be held over three days in August next year at the Nakdong River Sports Park area in Gumi City.

This event involves a 2-night, 3-day stay rather than a single-day course, which is expected to not only revitalize the local economy of Gumi but also serve as an excellent opportunity to promote Gumi’s agricultural and specialty products as well as tourist attractions to Korea Next-Generation Farmers members visiting from across the country.

The Gumi City Federation pledged to actively encourage member unity and participation to ensure a substantive convention and vowed to further boost the pride of next-generation farmers nationwide through the national convention to be held next year.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “Winning the bid for this national convention is an opportunity to demonstrate how strong Gumi’s agricultural sector is, despite its strong image as an industrial city, and it is expected to greatly enhance the competitiveness of Gumi’s agricultural products. We will make thorough preparations for a successful event during the remaining period.”
