'Opposition to Contaminated Water' Japanese Civic Group Files Complaint Against Prime Minister Kishida

Charged with Negligent Homicide and Other Offenses

A Japanese civic group opposing the ocean discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant filed a complaint on the 1st against Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) President Tomoaki Kobayakawa for professional negligence resulting in death, TEPCO announced.

According to reports, the civic group "National Liaison Council Opposing the Discharge of Nuclear Power Plant Contaminated Water" emphasized in the complaint submitted to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office that "even if water contaminated with radioactive materials is treated with the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS), other radioactive substances remain along with tritium, which is known to be originally impossible to remove," and stated that "it has harmed the health of many people."

After submitting the complaint, the group's representative, Kaoru Iwata, told reporters, "We filed the complaint based on predictions amid uncertainty about what kind of damage might occur."
