Celebration Event for the Fulfillment of Gyeongbuk East Coast Residents' Long-cherished Wish at Suseo Station
Two Round Trips per Day, 2 Hours 21 Minutes Travel Time, Increased Transportation Convenience
The long-awaited 'Suseo-bound high-speed train (SRT)' for residents of the East Coast region of Gyeongbuk officially began operation on the 1st.
Opening ceremony of the Pohang-Suseo high-speed train held on the platform of Suseo Station in Seoul on the 1st.
Pohang City and SR held an opening ceremony for the SRT high-speed train running from Pohang to Suseo Station in the Gangnam area of Seoul at the Suseo Station platform on the 1st.
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Lee Kang-deok, National Assembly members Kim Jeong-jae and Kim Byeong-wook, and SR CEO Lee Jong-guk listened to the SRT driver's operation report and presented flower garlands to the driver and crew, celebrating the opening of the SRT, a long-cherished wish of the East Coast residents of Gyeongbuk.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang said, "Please make efforts to ensure the safety of citizens using the service," adding, "The long-standing wish has come to fruition as a result of the joint interest and efforts of the citizens and local political circles."
Following the event, Mayor Lee Kang-deok took the first train from Suseo Station to Pohang, where a welcoming ceremony was held to greet SRT train passengers visiting Pohang.

The Pohang-Suseo SRT operates two round trips daily regardless of weekdays or weekends, with fares of 47,200 KRW for standard seats and 68,400 KRW for first-class seats.
The northbound train departs Pohang Station at 9:41 AM, arriving at the terminal Suseo Station at 12:02 PM, taking a total of 2 hours and 21 minutes. The next train departs Pohang at 7:43 PM and arrives at Suseo at 10:10 PM.
The southbound train departs Suseo Station at 6:30 AM, arriving at 8:51 AM, with the next train leaving Suseo at 4:34 PM and arriving in Pohang at 7:01 PM.
Previously, traveling from Pohang to Seoul Gangnam, where large hospitals and major corporations are concentrated, required disembarking at Seoul Station and traveling for more than 40 minutes, causing inconvenience.
To address this, the city, together with local political circles, visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korail, SR, and others more than ten times and held meetings with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, making multifaceted efforts that ultimately succeeded in operating the Pohang-Suseo train.
This train opening is expected to greatly improve transportation convenience for citizens, significantly aid local business activities in secondary batteries, steel, bio sectors, and also contribute to revitalizing the tourism industry by enabling metropolitan tourists to conveniently visit Pohang.
In line with the SRT opening, Pohang City will sign an 'ESG-based Win-Win Development Business Agreement' with SR on September 4.
Through this agreement, both organizations will strengthen strategic cooperation related to ESG, jointly discovering and promoting environmental protection, regional economic development, and social contribution activities. In particular, they plan to cooperate in promoting local festivals, specialty products, and supporting sales channels for local small and medium-sized enterprises.
Pohang City plans to continue efforts to improve citizens' transportation convenience by requesting additional train services from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and SR once the Pyeongtaek?Osong section, currently saturated in track capacity, is double-tracked in 2027 and additional train cars are introduced.
