Criticism of Lee's Hunger Strike at People Power Party's Floor Strategy Meeting
Yoon Jae-ok: "Indefinite Hunger Strike Pretending to Be the Weak"
Lee Cheol-gyu: "Hunger Strike Only Obstructing Investigation Procedures"
The ruling party leadership of the People Power Party on the 1st called for the withdrawal of Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea's hunger strike, labeling it a baseless 'shield hunger strike.'
Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, "Having shown absolute power inside and outside the National Assembly, why suddenly pretend to be the weak and start an indefinite hunger strike just before the regular session?" He pointed out, "Trying to artificially shake the president elected through the most basic democratic procedure, the election, is the most anti-democratic act that destroys democracy." He continued, "The Democratic Party should immediately stop the leader's hunger strike and return to parliamentary politics."

Lee Cheol-gyu, secretary-general, said, "Yesterday, the leader suddenly declared an indefinite hunger strike," adding, "It is obvious to anyone that the opposition leader, who holds an overwhelming majority of seats in the National Assembly, deciding to go on a hunger strike just one day before the regular session, which is full of pressing livelihood issues, is nothing but a shield hunger strike to obstruct the rule-of-law investigation procedures regarding his criminal charges."
Secretary-General Lee criticized, "The last means to prevent the destruction of democracy is not a shield hunger strike but the resignation of leader Lee Jae-myung," and said, "Leader Lee is someone who should quit politics, not stop eating."
He also said, "If the leader's hunger strike ends up being an intermittent hunger strike show to avoid appearing before the prosecution for the investigation into the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance suspicion scheduled for the upcoming 4th, it will be a great national deception that will go down in history," and pointed out, "A meaningless and worthless hunger strike will only shorten the leader's political life."
Song Eon-seok, ruling party member of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, said, "The Defense Minister's trip was for the defense industry expo that had been scheduled since last year and was directly related to our national interests, such as K-defense export contracts, but the Democratic Party closed their eyes and ears to national interests and criticized as if the minister had fled," and pointed out, "The real fugitive is leader Lee, who wants to escape prosecution and detention through a shield hunger strike."
