Jongno-gu, One-Stop Support for Counseling and Education of Out-of-School Youth

Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) opened the Jongno Youth Counseling Welfare Center & Out-of-School Youth Support Center (Myeongnyun-gil 90) on the 29th of last month to support the healthy growth of youth and held an opening ceremony to commemorate this.

The center, newly established in Myeongnyun-dong, is a remodeled former Jongno Cultural Center with one basement floor and four above-ground floors. The 1st and 3rd floors house the Youth Counseling Welfare Center, and the 4th floor is dedicated to the Out-of-School Youth Support Center. It is equipped with group counseling rooms, media counseling rooms, individual counseling rooms, education rooms, a dedicated space for out-of-school youth called ‘Kkumtree,’ and a small bookstore.

The district plans to provide a variety of customized services for youth here, including counseling, self-sufficiency programs, and education. Additionally, psychological counseling and learning support programs, including the qualification exam for high school equivalency, will be operated to help individuals find jobs suited to their aptitudes and provide practical assistance.

The opening ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Jeong Munheon, Mayor of Jongno-gu, National Assembly member Choi Jaehyung, district council members, school principals, and related organization officials. The event began at 3 p.m. with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by the opening, progress report, congratulatory speeches, and a facility tour.

Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “I find it very meaningful that the Youth Counseling Welfare Center and the Out-of-School Youth Support Center, which had been operating separately, have come together in a new space for a fresh start. We will firmly support youth so that they can grow into healthy members of society without difficulties and nurture their precious dreams.”
