All Industrial Lifts Must Be Equipped with 'Fall Prevention Devices' from Now On

Ministry of Employment Issues 'Notice on Safety Inspection Procedures' and Others

From now on, all industrial lifts must be equipped with fall prevention devices regardless of their operating distance. Industrial lifts under 0.5t, which have not undergone safety inspections until now, will also be subject to safety inspections.

On the 31st, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it will issue the "Notice on Safety Inspection Procedures" and related regulations effective September 1st, containing these provisions.

With the revised safety inspection procedures and safety inspection notice to be implemented in March next year, industrial lifts with a load capacity under 0.5t will also be included in the safety inspection targets under the Industrial Safety and Health Act. Additionally, fall prevention devices, which were previously required only for industrial lifts operating over a distance of 10 meters, must now be installed regardless of the operating distance. Safety devices such as impact mitigation devices, rope slack detection devices, and fall prevention devices necessary to prevent fall accidents of industrial lift carriers must all be installed.

Users of industrial lifts under 0.5t, newly included in the safety inspection targets, must apply for safety inspections within six months from the enforcement date of the revised notice (March 2, 2024). Considering the initial stage of the system implementation, workplaces that apply for safety inspections within the application period will be granted a grace period for improvement and administrative measures such as "suspension of use" will be deferred even if they fail the safety inspection.
