Motrex Launches Joint Development of Autonomous Driving... Full-Scale Commercialization Planned for Next Year

Motrex announced on the 30th that it has signed a joint development agreement with autonomous driving software company ThorDrive for the commercialization of autonomous driving.

ThorDrive, which Motrex has partnered with for joint development, was founded in 2016 by the autonomous driving research team from Seoul National University, who were the first in Korea to succeed in urban autonomous driving. They have demonstrated their autonomous driving technology through various domestic and international autonomous driving service cases, including autonomous delivery pilot services in California, USA, indoor unmanned autonomous vehicles at Incheon International Airport, and autonomous delivery pilot services at E-Mart. Since last year, they have been accelerating the commercialization of autonomous driving in the special logistics sector by conducting autonomous logistics vehicle demonstration projects at logistics hubs in two global logistics companies' airports in the United States.

Motrex decided to conduct an autonomous driving PoC for logistics transport vehicles aimed at the commercialization of autonomous driving in specific areas together with ThorDrive, which has shown the most outstanding performance in autonomous driving technology, by December. Full-scale commercialization will begin next year.

Motrex judged that autonomous driving in specific areas is not only commercially viable but also offers cost-saving effects by replacing labor costs, making rapid commercialization possible. The entire system development will be handled by Motrex, while the autonomous driving software will be managed by ThorDrive in a joint development approach.

A Motrex official said, "We are doing our best in developing autonomous driving-related technologies after being selected last year as the lead research institution for platform technology development for autonomous commercial vehicles," adding, "The joint development agreement with ThorDrive is an important event that can take autonomous driving development to the next level."

He continued, "Through this joint development agreement, we will advance autonomous commercial vehicle services and accelerate the timing of technology commercialization," adding, "We will transform into an integrated IVI platform company for autonomous vehicles."
