What Are the Differences Between the Human Brain and AI?

September 26, 7 PM at Nowon Citizens' Hall: Lecture by Neuroscientist Dr. Jang Dong-seon on "The Future of the AI Era from a Neuroscientist's Perspective"

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the third 'Immortal Masterclass' of 2023 on September 26.

'Immortal Masterclass' is the district's representative lifelong education project that invites prominent figures from various fields such as humanities, science, and popular culture to discuss contemporary issues and personal life stories. Since its inception in 2019, the series has featured actor Lee Soon-jae, physicist Kim Sang-wook, writer Jo Jung-rae, lecturer Choi Tae-sung, and profiler Pyo Chang-won, among others.

The third 'Immortal Masterclass' of 2023 will feature Dr. Jang Dong-seon, a neuroscientist and science communicator who has recently appeared on programs such as 'Mwo-teol-dosa', 'Eojjeoda Eoreun', and 'Alssul Sinjab'.

Dr. Jang will deliver a lecture titled "The Future of the AI Era from a Neuroscientist's Perspective," discussing with attendees the biggest distinctions between the human brain and AI, and how our lives will change with the advent of AI systems.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. on September 26 at the Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall. To accommodate citizens of various age groups, the district will accept a total of 600 participants, divided into 500 seats for online pre-registration and 100 seats for on-site registration on the day of the event.

Online pre-registration will be available from 9 a.m. on September 4 through the 'Online Registration' section on the Nowon-gu Office website. On-site registration will begin at 6 p.m. on the day of the lecture and will be limited to the first 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis. All seats are free of charge and will be operated on a free seating basis. The event will also be broadcast live on the district’s official YouTube channel, 'Nowon-gu Office Mihongssi'.

The district also announced the upcoming fourth 'Immortal Masterclass.' On December 1 at 3 p.m., Professor Yoo Hong-jun, author of 'My Cultural Heritage Exploration,' will give a lecture at the Nowon-gu Citizens' Hall.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I hope that through Dr. Jang Dong-seon’s lecture, residents will have an opportunity to think about how to accept and prepare for the approaching AI era,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to satisfy the cultural needs of our citizens by providing high-quality lectures.”
