Government's Detailed Joint Investigation on Typhoon 'Khanun' Damage

President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 29th additionally declared three local governments?Goseong-gun in Gangwon Province, Sannae-myeon in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk Province, and Gasan-myeon in Chilgok-gun?as special disaster zones due to the large-scale damage caused by Typhoon Khanun, the 6th typhoon of the year.

Lee Do-woon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, conveyed President Yoon's special disaster zone declaration through a written briefing on the same day, stating, "This additional declaration is a measure reflecting the results of a detailed joint investigation by relevant ministries on typhoon damage, beyond the two local governments (Gunwi-gun in Daegu and Hyeonnae-myeon in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province) that were initially declared on August 14 following an emergency preliminary survey."

He added, "While only Hyeonnae-myeon in Goseong-gun was included in the previous declaration, the detailed investigation results have expanded the declared area to the entire Goseong-gun."

When an area is declared a special disaster zone, part of the restoration costs is supported by the national government, and affected residents receive disaster relief funds, reductions in public utility charges, and tax benefits. The government will apply the previously announced measures to raise and expand support standards for heavy rain damage to this typhoon damage as well. These measures will also apply equally to areas not declared as special disaster zones.
