Pungsan Increases Range of K-9 Self-Propelled Howitzer Shells

Increase from 40㎞ to 60㎞ by 50%

Pungsan has succeeded in developing a 155mm extended-range projectile. The extended-range projectile, which increases the range from the existing 40 km of the 155mm artillery shell to 60 km, a 50% increase, is expected to be deployed soon.

According to Pungsan on the 29th, when using the new 155mm extended-range projectile with the K9 self-propelled howitzer operated by our military, the range has increased. With the extended artillery range, it is expected that targets deep within enemy territory, located farther away, can be struck in real time, enabling broader operational use including improved survivability.

Pungsan explained that achieving a 60 km range through improved ammunition performance without changing the specifications of the K9 self-propelled howitzer is a highly advanced technology. The 155mm extended-range projectile developed by Pungsan is scheduled to be operational starting next year.

With the success in developing the 155mm extended-range projectile and the enhanced performance of the K9 self-propelled howitzer, it is also expected to have a positive impact on future exports of the K9 howitzer.
