Sunchang-gun Operates 'Social Integration Program' for Foreign Workers

The Family Center of Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk recently opened a weekend social integration program for about 20 foreign workers residing in the county to provide customized local settlement support for immigrants.

According to the county on the 29th, this program is designed to systematically teach immigrants the basic knowledge necessary for life in Korea, including Korean language, economy, and society, structured into levels 0 to 5. Upon completion of the course, participants can receive various incentives such as exemption from the nationality acquisition written test and additional points.

In particular, benefits of a pilot visa project are provided, allowing eligible participants to change to a region-specific visa (F-2-R) that enables employment in various industries, and the enthusiasm for education participation among foreign workers is very high.

To increase participation, this weekend program offers a Korean language and Korean culture level 3 curriculum, which started on the 20th and will run once a week for 13 sessions totaling 100 hours until November 19.

Through this educational course, many foreign workers are expected to receive Korean language education suited to their level, enabling rapid language acquisition, narrowing cultural differences, and facilitating smooth acquisition of nationality and residence permits.

Moon Jeong-hyun, head of the Sunchang-gun Family Center, said, “We hope immigrants overcome communication problems through the social integration program and establish themselves as healthy members of society,” adding, “We will continue to expand customized support for foreign residents in Sunchang-gun.”
