Jungnang-gu Allocates 58 Billion KRW Supplementary Budget to Revitalize Local Economy

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) has submitted a supplementary budget proposal totaling 58 billion KRW to the district council, focusing on revitalizing the local economy, welfare sectors, and resident safety.

This supplementary budget prioritizes urgent resident-requested projects and campaign pledges from the 8th local government term that can be executed within the year, including recovery of livelihoods, local economic revitalization, and urban safety enhancement. The proposal will be reviewed by the Jungnang-gu Council (Chairman Jo Seong-yeon) starting September 4 and is expected to be finalized on the 15th.

With this supplementary budget, the district plans to actively support key local industries such as the garment sector and traditional markets to invigorate the local economy, and implement urban maintenance to more thoroughly protect residents' safety.

For local economic revitalization, funds will be allocated as follows: 100 million KRW for modernization of traditional market facilities, 1.79 billion KRW for public work projects, and 100 million KRW to support small garment business owners with disposal of scrap materials.

Additionally, 240 million KRW will be invested in flood prevention facilities for underground housing, 2 billion KRW for maintenance of river facilities and sewer pipe improvements, 1.46 billion KRW for pavement and road facility improvements, and 180 million KRW for park green space maintenance to accelerate the creation of a safe urban environment.

To enhance residents' leisure and living environments, 600 million KRW has been allocated for the construction of the 2nd Jungnang Media Center, 50 million KRW for operating expenses of the Muk 2-dong Culture and Sports Complex Center, and 200 million KRW for a specialized tree planting project at Mangwoo History and Culture Park.

Education will also receive generous investment with 100 million KRW for building an integrated education information platform, 17 million KRW for lifelong learning programs and career experience support, and 180 million KRW for operating support of community centers.

Resident welfare is carefully addressed as well. Support covers senior centers’ operations, free meal services for the disabled, welfare support for childcare teachers, special activity expenses for low-income children, and emergency repair support for public daycare centers, ensuring comprehensive care for seniors, the disabled, and childcare sectors. For improving childbirth and childcare environments, 1.55 billion KRW has been allocated for postpartum care expenses, infertility treatment support for couples, and childcare leave incentives.

The funding for this supplementary budget comes from the 2022 fiscal year settlement surplus of 43.4 billion KRW, 3.7 billion KRW in national and provincial subsidies, and 6.4 billion KRW secured through expenditure restructuring such as reducing rigid expenses. Of this, 24 billion KRW has been reserved in the fiscal stabilization fund to prepare for uncertain revenue conditions and economic situations.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “This supplementary budget focuses on revitalizing the local economy and creating a safe urban environment where residents can live with peace of mind. Once the budget is finalized, we will promptly proceed with the projects to make Jungnang-gu an even better place to live.”
