Police Decide Not to Prosecute Tae Young-ho Lawmaker Over Controversial Remarks on Jeju 4·3 Incident

It has been reported that Tae Young-ho, a member of the People Power Party who was accused of making defamatory remarks about the ‘Jeju 4·3 Incident,’ has received a decision of non-prosecution.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 28th that the case in which Tae was accused of defamation of the deceased and defamation by false facts was dismissed on the 21st and referred to the prosecution without indictment. A police official stated that the reason for dismissal was that “the elements constituting the crime of defamation under the Criminal Act are not established.”

Previously, Tae caused controversy by making remarks about the Jeju 4·3 Incident, such as “under the direction of the Kim Il-sung family” and “Baekbeom Kim Gu was deceived by Kim Il-sung’s united front strategy.” In response, the Committee for the Protection of the Common People’s Livelihood filed a complaint against Tae for defamation with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on April 20.
