From the 1st to 3rd of next month... Over 25,000 Participants in 39 Events
The '60th Jeonbuk Provincial Sports Festival,' a gathering of harmony and celebration for the people of Jeonbuk, will take place throughout Gimje City.
According to the Jeonbuk Sports Council (Chairman Jeong Gang-seon) on the 28th, the Provincial Sports Festival will be held over three days from the 1st to the 3rd of next month in Gimje City. This year's festival is the last to be held under the name 'Jeollabuk-do' following the launch of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province in 2024.
Under the slogan "Golden Hope Jeollabuk-do, Together in Gimje," 39 events (37 official and 2 demonstration) will be contested. Approximately 25,000 participants, including athletes, officials, and spectators from 14 cities and counties within the province, will engage in friendly competition.
Previously, over two days from the 26th to the 27th, preliminary matches for nine events such as folk games, soft tennis, judo, and tug-of-war were completed.
The Sports Council, Gimje City, and related organizations have thoroughly checked venue safety, traffic, accommodation, and other preparations to ensure a harmonious festival uniting all residents.
The opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on September 1st at the Gimje Citizens' Stadium and will feature an opening video and congratulatory performances before the main event with the athletes' parade and torch lighting, followed by an art show and popular singer performances to celebrate the festival.
The closing ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on the 3rd at the Gimje National Sports Center, including the overall awards presentation and the handover of the festival flag to Sunchang County, the next host of the Provincial Sports Festival.
Jeong Gang-seon, chairman of the Sports Council, said, "I wish all athletes competing for the honor of their cities and counties great success and hope they compete without injuries or regrets. We will do our best to create a Jeonbuk united through sports."
