Railroad Corporation Conducts Commercial Test Run on Dongducheon~Yeoncheon Railway... "Opening by the End of This Year"

The Korea Rail Network Authority will conduct commercial trial runs for the Gyeongwon Line 'Dongducheon~Yeoncheon Railway Construction Project' from the 29th of this month to October 12th.

According to the Rail Network Authority on the 28th, the commercial trial runs are the final procedure of comprehensive test operations, conducted under the assumption of actual commercial conditions to check the appropriateness of the operation system and passenger convenience facilities, as well as to provide route familiarization training for train drivers.

Once the commercial trial runs are completed, a comprehensive report on the test operation results and a final review regarding the possibility of opening will be conducted by November this year. The Rail Network Authority expects the actual opening to be possible by the end of this year.

Earlier, during the facility inspection test period (May to June), the Rail Network Authority, together with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and Korea Railroad Corporation, inspected the construction status of 66 railway facilities including roadbed, track, power, and signaling to ensure the safety of train operations.

The Dongducheon~Yeoncheon Railway Construction Project is being promoted with a total budget of 492.3 billion KRW to extend the Gyeongwon Line metropolitan subway to Yeoncheon.

Upon completion of this project, travel time from Dongducheon to Yeoncheon is expected to be reduced from 30 minutes to 17 minutes.

Kim Han-young, Director of the Rail Network Authority, said, “Once the Dongducheon~Yeoncheon line opens, it will contribute to revitalizing the regional economy by promoting development in the northern Gyeonggi metropolitan area and providing convenient metropolitan transportation.” He added, “We will perfectly complete the commercial trial runs, the final stage of the comprehensive test operations, to create a premium railway that meets the public’s expectations.”
