Samsung Electronics Unveils Food Integrated Platform 'Samsung Food' at IFA
Accelerating AI in Home Appliances
Providing Personalized 'Custom Recipes'
Integration with 'Samsung Health' Within the Year
Samsung Electronics is accelerating the development of 'unprecedented technology' through the AI integration of home appliances. The first result is the food integrated platform 'Samsung Food,' which provides personalized dining experiences.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 24th that it will showcase Samsung Food at IFA 2023, Europe's largest home appliance exhibition, held in Berlin, Germany, starting next month on the 1st.
Samsung Food features a single platform that offers all the necessary functions for overall dietary life, from the preparation stages such as recipe search and storage, meal planning, and ingredient management, to cooking and content sharing.
This is part of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong's management policy of securing 'super-gap technology.' On the 1st of this month, Samsung Electronics established the Future Technology Office directly under the Device Experience (DX) division to serve as a control tower for securing technology and products. The Home Appliance Business Division established the AI Strategy P to present AI strategies and roadmaps for AI integration in home appliances, and Samsung Research (SR), Samsung Electronics' advanced technology development organization, created the 'Smart Home AI Lab' under the Next-Generation Home Appliance Research Team to promote related advanced R&D.
Samsung Electronics is expected to put all its efforts into developing AI-based home appliances and services, starting with Samsung Food, to improve stagnant home appliance profitability.
Park Chan-woo, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said, "Samsung Electronics has provided smart cooking experiences by introducing various products that combine differentiated AI and IoT technologies, such as the 'Family Hub' refrigerator and 'Bespoke Cooker.' We expect Samsung Food to act as a 'nutritionist in your hand,' offering highly personalized dining experiences."
Samsung Food provides more than 160,000 recipes by default, and recipes not provided by Samsung Food can be added to 'My Recipes.' With integrated 'Food AI' technology, it also offers personalized recipes based on individual food preferences, desired nutritional balance levels, and types of food. Additionally, it guides users on how to cook according to their skill level and available time, considering factors such as cooking difficulty and required cooking time.
It can also be linked with Samsung kitchen appliances. Cooking settings for Samsung Food’s customized recipes can be sent directly to the 'Bespoke Oven.' Samsung Electronics plans to expand this linkage to include the 'Bespoke Induction' and 'Bespoke Microwave' by the end of the year, starting with the Bespoke Oven. Samsung Food is available not only on mobile devices but also on the Family Hub of Bespoke refrigerators.
Furthermore, Samsung Electronics plans to link Samsung Food with Samsung Health within this year. Once these two services are connected, users will be able to check optimized recipes and meal plans based on their BMI, body composition, calorie intake, and expenditure. Next year, Samsung plans to apply 'Vision AI' technology so that users can simply take a photo of food anytime and anywhere to instantly check the nutritional content and recipe.
Samsung Food will be available in 104 countries and 8 languages starting from the 31st. It can be downloaded via Google Play and the App Store.
