Kia announced on the 23rd that pre-orders for the electric vehicle model of the compact car Ray (hereinafter Ray EV) will begin on the 24th of this month.
The Ray EV applies electric vehicle-exclusive design elements based on the design of the compact car Ray released last year, including 14-inch alloy wheels and a hexagonal charging port with a front center decoration.
The interior enhances a futuristic image with a 10.25-inch supervision cluster and a column-type (small pillar behind the steering wheel) electronic shift lever integrated with the start button. The space where the Ray’s start button and shift lever were located has been newly arranged with a horizontal air conditioning switch, display, and storage space. The Ray EV is available in six exterior colors including the new Smoke Blue, and two interior colors: Light Gray and Black.
The Ray EV is equipped with a 35.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and improves aerodynamic performance by applying a front battery under cover. It secures a combined driving range of 205 km and an urban driving range of 233 km on a single charge. Based on 14-inch tires, it achieves a combined energy efficiency of 5.1 km/kWh. Using a 150 kW fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes. With a 7 kW slow charger, it can be fully charged from 10% to 100% in 6 hours.
The Ray EV’s drive motor delivers a maximum output of 64.3 kW (approximately 87 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 147 Nm. The Ray EV’s drive motor performance improves by about 15% in maximum output and 55% in maximum torque compared to the gasoline model’s maximum output (76 horsepower, 55.9 kW) and maximum torque of 95.1 Nm. It also secures quietness by applying EV-exclusive low-noise tires.
Moreover, it is the first compact car in Korea to apply an electronic brake and electronic parking brake (EPB). It features an 'Auto Hold' function, which is highly useful during city driving with frequent traffic jams, and has regenerative braking capabilities specialized for electric vehicles.
The prices of the Ray EV by trim for the 4-seater passenger car are ▲Light 27.75 million KRW ▲Air 29.55 million KRW. For the 2-seater van, prices are ▲Light 27.45 million KRW ▲Air 27.95 million KRW, and for the 1-seater van, prices are ▲Light 27.35 million KRW ▲Air 27.8 million KRW.
Kia provides a 10-year/160,000 km warranty for electric vehicle-exclusive parts such as the drive motor of the Ray EV. Regarding the high-voltage battery warranty, individual customers who purchase the Ray EV for the first time receive a 10-year/200,000 km warranty, while other customers receive a 10-year/160,000 km warranty, similar to Kia’s other dedicated electric vehicles.
Additionally, Kia will offer discount coupons for emergency slow charging cables (220V ICCB) sold at the Kia Car & Life Mall to 300 individual, sole proprietorship, and general corporate customers who take delivery of the Ray EV in September and October.
