Gangbuk-gu Supports 3 Types of Safety Packages for Single Women Households and More

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is providing a set of three safety kits to vulnerable residential safety groups, such as single women households, to prevent gender-based violence and residential intrusion crimes.

The three-piece safety kit consists of a location-tracking personal alarm, a delivery invoice eraser, and an indoor motion detector. Previously, the district selected these three items as the safety kit based on high demand from residents through an online survey on the website and field surveys conducted by the Women-Friendly City Resident Participation Group.

First, the location-tracking personal alarm is a smart ring-type device attached to the back of a mobile phone. In an emergency, pressing the center button on the alarm sounds a siren and sends location information and a recorded audio file via text message to up to five pre-registered contacts.

The delivery invoice eraser is a product that easily removes personal information such as addresses, names, and phone numbers printed on delivery invoices. The indoor motion detector is a device that detects movement inside the home using a motion sensor and sends an alert to a smartphone.

The location-tracking personal alarm and indoor motion detector can be used through a dedicated smartphone application, and the indoor motion detector requires connection to the home’s wireless internet (Wi-Fi) to function.

The safety kit support targets include ▲single women households residing in Gangbuk-gu ▲households composed only of women or women and children ▲single men households who have experienced crimes such as residential intrusion or dating violence ▲single men households aged 65 or older who are elderly and vulnerable. However, the program may end early if supplies run out.

Residents wishing to apply should bring identification, one copy of a resident registration certificate (issued within the last month), and the application form to visit the Women and Family Division of Gangbuk-gu Office. The application form can be downloaded from the Gangbuk-gu website or completed in person at the Women and Family Division.

For more details, please check the Gangbuk-gu website or contact the Women and Family Division of Gangbuk-gu Office for guidance.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “Through this support project, we will be able to proactively respond to crimes such as residential intrusion and gender-based violence,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen the urban safety network through various projects so that vulnerable residential safety groups, such as single women households, can live with peace of mind.”
