Base Fare Increased from 3,300 Won to 4,000 Won
Late-Night Surcharge Changed to 11 PM - 4 AM
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province will raise the base fare for mid-sized taxis from 3,300 won to 4,000 won starting at midnight on the 28th.
This fare increase, the first in four years since the last taxi fare hike in 2019, will be uniformly applied to all cities and counties within the province following the adjustment of taxi fares and rates by Gyeongbuk Province.
Accordingly, from midnight on the 28th, the base fare for mid-sized taxis covering the initial 2 km will increase by 700 won from 3,300 won to 4,000 won, and the fare charged per distance will change from 100 won per 134 meters to 100 won per 131 meters. Additionally, the time-based charge of 100 won per 33 seconds when driving at speeds below 15 km/h will be shortened to 31 seconds.
To address the shortage of night taxis, the late-night surcharge (20%) period, previously applied from midnight to 4 a.m., will be extended by one hour to run from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
The city plans to collaborate with transportation operators to complete meter inspections promptly and will also introduce a GPS-based automatic calculation program for complex surcharges to ensure accurate and transparent taxi fare calculations.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “Although we considered the economic burden on citizens due to the economic downturn and rising prices, we had to inevitably adjust the fares in light of the difficulties faced by the taxi industry due to increased operating costs,” adding, “We will strive to prevent any confusion regarding the changed taxi fares through active promotion.”
