Efforts to Eradicate Illegal Overtime Payment by Public Officials to Improve Integrity

On the 18th, Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a 'Countermeasure Meeting for Improving Vulnerable Areas in Integrity' chaired by County Governor Seong Nak-in.

Through this meeting, the county evaluated that the work processes of affiliated public officials are fair, courteous, and honest, while diagnosing that there are areas for improvement in the personal conduct of public officials.

The area diagnosed for improvement to enhance integrity is the 'eradication of fraudulent overtime claims by public officials.' Going forward, the county announced a high-intensity policy that demands disciplinary action regardless of the number of times inappropriate overtime is detected.

The main contents of the countermeasures to eradicate fraudulent overtime claims include additional disadvantageous measures against the approvers of overtime when 'fraudulent overtime claims by affiliated public officials' are detected, and 'undercover inspections' of public officials who register abnormal overtime compared to the relevant work.

In addition, the audit department plans to conduct frequent service inspections to eradicate fraudulent overtime claims by public officials.

Governor Seong Nak-in stated, "Integrity is a fundamental virtue that must be upheld as a public official," and urged, "Affiliated public officials should strictly comply with service regulations and live with integrity regardless of whether it is public or private work."
