Gwanak-gu Accelerates Creation of a 'City Where Youth Dreams Come True'

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is accelerating the creation of "Gwanak, a city where youth achieve their dreams" together with the "Gwanak Youth Center Director," who represents the voices of young people.

The district, which ranks first nationwide with a youth population ratio of 41%, has been promoting various youth support projects. However, to discover new policies that resonate more deeply with young people, it aimed to establish a foundation to directly listen to youth stories and reflect them in policies.

Accordingly, in April, the district established the "Gwanak Youth Center," a youth support integrated platform with a total floor area of 1,528.86㎡ (1 basement floor, 7 above-ground floors), and recruited and has been operating the "Gwanak Youth Center Steering Committee," composed of young people who will proactively lead the center.

The Gwanak Youth Center Steering Committee, consisting of nine members, is made up of local youth activists who are highly interested in youth policies aimed at improving the quality of life for young people. They establish the roles, vision, and operational plans of the Youth Center and participate in various decision-making processes.

In addition, to listen more closely to the voices of young people, the district appointed "Kim Hee-in," Chairperson of the Gwanak Youth Center Steering Committee, as the inaugural Youth Center Director of the Gwanak Youth Center.

The honorary position of Youth Center Director will not only represent the voices of youth but also serve as a communication channel to ensure that the district implements policies that young people genuinely want and need.

At the appointment ceremony held on August 11, Mayor Park Jun-hee promised once again, after presenting the appointment certificate to the Youth Center Director, to work together to discover and promote various policies that young people can truly feel.

Youth Center Director Kim Hee-in said, "I will actively engage in facility management and promotion so that the Gwanak Youth Center can play a central role in Gwanak, the youth capital," and added, "I will continue to listen to the voices of local youth, propose and discover youth policies, and walk alongside young people."

Mayor Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu said, "Centered on the Youth Center, a comprehensive activity hub for youth, I will work with Youth Center Director Kim Hee-in to breathe with young people and implement policies that youth desire, creating 'Gwanak, the youth capital, a city where youth achieve their dreams' that opens opportunities for future generations."

Meanwhile, the district comprehensively provides "youth-centered customized consulting" covering employment, jobs, welfare, counseling, and community support by utilizing spaces such as the youth caf?, seminar rooms, counseling rooms, multipurpose auditorium, shared office, and startup incubation rooms at the Gwanak Youth Center.
